2005 European Championships - Slovakia

Tomek's pictorial gallery Day Two - Part 2

Below: 2003 World Champion, Tamas Walter, secured a superb section win on day one from rock hard B section but on day two sits motionless on E3 for most of day as his dreams of European glory melt, away having drawn the same peg as Alan Scotthorne did on day one!

Below: Goran Babic from Serbia & Montenegro nets a small skimmer from E6 which helped him weigh in 1.250kg for 15.5pts for his country, which gained a very respectable 10th place overall, in front of one of the pre-match favourites, Hungary!

Below: The crowds begin to gather behind Will Raison with just over two hours left... perhaps they know the outcome!!!

Above & right, below left & right: William waits patiently for another bite and when it comes he's off his seat and lifts the pole as much as it will take to avoid the barbel cutting off on the mussel beds. Once satisfied it's off the bottom enough, he can sit down and keep the pressure on the fish as he works it towards the surface.

Below left & right: Having got the fish near the surface Will prepares to net. Having safely deposited another barbel in the net Will feeds another ball of heavy sticky mag, from a height.

Below left & right: Ready and waiting for the next barbel... Will holds onto the pole as the strong current creates a backwash behind his 40gr Cralusso float, an essential tool for most of the field.

Below: Poor World Champion, Guido Nullens, had a disaster of a tournament, finishing with just 100gr and 13 points from day one. He didn't fare much better on day two and although he caught more (1.510kg) he still scored the same 13pts! Here Guido looks across at Italy's Stefano Defendi (6.810kg), who caught well all day, and was the only angler to get near Will Raison's weight of 9.590kg.

Above & below: Guy Stamet from Luxembourg produced a great performance for his team. Guy finished in 12th overall with 9 points and was the teams highest individual.

Above & below left: Switzerland's Jacky Belliard gets to grip with one of the rivers barbel. Jacky finished with 1.360kg which earned him and his team 14pts. Unfortunately it wasn't good enough to lift the team from 17th place overall.

Above: Poland's Piotr Lorenc only caught 1.750kg from E22 but it was the best around him, even so he had a poor tournament like so many other classy anglers in Slovakia. He was lucky to miss being substituted on day two with only 9.5pts from day one, that unkind honour fell to Boguslaw Brud who scored just 10.5pts.
