In less than four months Paris will provide the backdrop to the World Champs. As a little taster we can show you where the different sections are planned to be and give you the programme for the weekend.

Paris will be a difficult championship to spectate as the sections are not continuous and may require a subway ride to get from one to the other. This might mean that you are better advised to pick one section to watch each day and stick to it. Three hours does not leave you much time for messing about between sections. Given the standard of all the anglers now competing at world level, every section will be worth watching and be keenly fought.
Proposed Timetable for the Championships.

Monday 10th to Thursday 13th September
These are the official practise days on each of the 5 sections. You may think that teams would be free to practise as they want but there are only 2 official practise times each day:
10.30 to 13.30 and 15.30 to 18.30, with a 5 minute pre-baiting period each day.
On Friday 14th there is a morning session starting at 09.00 and ending at 12.00 with the infamous 'captains meeting' taking place at 15.00

The two match days go like this:
Saturday 15th
08.00 - Draw
11.00 - Competitors can go into their taped zones
12.55 - Initial 5 minute groundbaiting
13.00 - Competition starts
15.55 - Five minute warning signal
16.00 - Competition ends.
18.30 - First day results published and captains meeting.

Sunday 16th
07.00 - Draw
10.00 - Competitors can go into their taped zones
11.55 - Initial 5 minute groundbaiting
12.00 - Competition starts
14.55 - Five minute warning signal
15.00 - Competition ends.
19.00 - Official results followed by the banquet and general celebrations of the last evening.
Section A Gros Caillou
On the left (south) bank in the 7th arrondissement (similar to a Borough/District), it lies between the Pont de l'Alma and Pont des Invalides (Pont = Bridge).
To get there: Take the RER C to the Pont de l'Alma station on the south side of the river or Metro line 9 to Alma Marceau on the north side.

Section B Tuileries
On the right (north) bank in the 1st arrondissement, near to the Place de la Concorde, above the Pont Royal.
To get there: RER C to the Musée d'Orsay. Metro line 12 to the Assemblée Nationale.

Section C Louvre
Again a right bank section in front of the Louvre between the Pont du Carrousel and the Pont des Arts.
To get there: Metro line 1 or 7 to Louvre Rivoli or line 7 to Pont Neuf.

Section D Celestines Gate
On the right bank in the 4th arrondissement between the Pont Marie and Pont de Sully. This section is still awaiting full FIPS approval before being confirmed.
To get there: Metro line 7 to Sully Morland or Pont Marie stations.

Section E Tino Rossi Garden
Left bank this time between Pont de Sully and Pont D'Austerlitz.
To get there: RER C to Gare D'Austerlitz and Metro lines 10 or 5 to Gare D'Austerlitz and 7 or 10 to Jussieu.

When travelling on the Metro or RER try buying a block of 10 tickets, called a Carnét, its fantastic value.

There is one other mode of transport, perhaps the best, which if allowed on the day will take you around nearly all the sections...
...The BATOBUS, a river taxi, calls at 7 stops along the Seine... The Eiffel Tower, Musée d'Orsay, St Germain, Notre Dame, Hotel de Ville, Louvre and Champs Elysées. It costs about 65 francs for a day pass and you can hop on and hop off all day long! Hows that for value, AND you can watch the competitors from your vantage point in the middle of the Seine. REMEMBER that's only if it is allowed to operate while the competition runs.
Above: No, its not a shot of carp feeding on the Seine, its actually the pond at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower... remember to take some bread!
Above left: This is the size of the river traffic associated with this part of the Seine.
Left: A view of Notre Dame seen from upstream near section E.
Below: If you have time and your near Invalides, its well worth going along to see Napoleon's Tomb and most definately the Army Museum which contains an incredible collection of ancient armour and weaponry.
Matchangler.com and Déclic will keep you up-to-date with all the news and views from the venue during the coming weeks and our coverage of the actual event will be comprehensive and, as usual, will be one of the first on record.
How do I get there?

If this all sounds very exciting - and it will once we know more about the fishng in each section - then you might be tempted to try and get to Paris for the big day. There are a number of ways you could go....

BY CAR
You can either cross Dover - Calais by boat.
Check out:
P&O Stenna Line on:

Seafrance on:

Alternatively cross Folkstone to Calais on the tunnel:

Once in France you follow the A26 direction Paris-Reims and turn off on the A1 for Paris. You need to calculate about £15.00 each way on motorway tolls but you can pay the charges on a credit card. Petrol on the other hand is cheaper in France.

Once you hit Paris then you need to negotiate the peripherique - the inner ring road. Please plan your way into the city carefully and try to avoid missing the right exit or porté. It's a long way round if you get it wrong!

BY TRAIN
If the thought of driving is a bit much, try taking the train from Waterloo in London right to the Gare du Nord in Paris. This is by far the least stressful option.

BY PLANE
Charles de Gaulle Airport is at Roissy, about 1 hour by the reliable RER, north of Paris. Flights are available from a number of UK airports through:

Staying in Paris should be relatively easy and cheap if you stay outside the main touristy places and use the Metro/RER into the centre. Most travel agents should be able to fix you up hotel accommodation, but don't leave it too long!
