Images of Paris... no.2
Part 2 of our pictorial portrait of the 2001 Angling World Championships held on the Seine in the heart of Paris.
Above: Szilard Magyar of Hungary had a superb day 1, finishing 2nd in section C with nearly 3 kilos, unfortunately a poor draw in section E on day 2 completely screwed up his individual chances and he finished down in the pack at 39th. Note the proliferation of red groundbait buckets, a hallmark of these championships!
Right: Steve Gardener on B23 - Normally one looks up to 'god' but on this occasion we have the pleasure of looking down on him!!!
Left: Already mentioned was the abundance of red (rouge for our French readers) groundbait buckets supplied to all competitors by one of the sponsors - Rameau. This shot will probably never be seen again as it features Sensas doyen, Jean Desque, actually putting his hand into something other than GREEN!
Left: Another Channel Islander, David Copperwaite, is all smiles prior to day 1... just wait 3 hours and then see... he blanked along with 16 others in B section!
Above & Left: Lollipops were less important on the weeked than expected and were largely packed away for day 2.
Above: Croatian Smail Habibuvic came second in section E on day 1 with 1.290kg which included these quality roach.
Above: Hungarian Gyula Katus with a bit of space in front of him on E section were he conjured up 400gr to place him 10th after the first day.
Above: Steve, I know its a lollipop (and a big one) but your supposed to put it on the line not lick it!
Above: Szillard Magyar was a fancied outsider for individual glory after day 1 but fell away due to a poor second day draw.
Left: Diego da Silva had to work hard on the second day as he drew E section and found that his favoured quarry, bream, had done a runner. He produced a fantastic performance on small fish to beat all but three of the end pegs.
Below left: A disconsulate Marc Green of the USA ponders on what might have been after his day 1 triumph in section A. He drew dreaded E section and managed just 10gr for 33.5 penalty points.
Below right: Wales' Ian Leach netting a decent chub on his way to glory in section D on the first day. He too drew E section on the final day and blew out.
Left: Paris was not short of crowds and was well supportred by the hopme fans as well as a large contingent from the UK.
Above: Despite the wind and the umbrellas, the weigh in was slick and quick.

Right: "But were have all the bream gone mon ami" Diego looks a little bemused as he prepars to tackle section E!
