England produced a dominant performance to secure another 'Golden' World Championship, the third in team manager Tommy Pickering's reign.
With big fish securing most of the top five places, it was England who stuck to a rigid plan of leam instead of groundbait, which would just draw in the big fish. The only exception was Wendy Locker who somehow managed to land one of the resident lumps to earn her 5th overall. The team had decided that their main focus was on winning team gold and their tactics of substituting the groundbait for leam worked a treat for the masses of roach and skimmers, which inhabited the venue. This ploy saw them totally annihilate the rest of the field on day one, posting an amazing 12pts
11pts clear of their nearest rivals, home side Croatia.
Day two saw a different scorecard with Hungary making a late challenge, finishing with just 16pts and caping a Team Bronze position with the Individual Champion, Livia Hajdu, known to thousands of Declic Peche readers as Miss Livia.
Livias total weight of 19.220kg was the highest in the competition and was courtesy of three very large grass carp, two on day one of 6.5kg and 6kg, and on day two a 5kg lump plus some smaller fish.
