It's the end of a busy week for all the competing teams. All their tests, options, plans and information dossiers should now be finalised... if not, then they are in trouble!
We take a brief look at some of the competitors who may, or may not, encounter team and individual glory over the next two days of the Championships. This will be the briefest of our Gallery slideshows as our pictures for the day are limited.

A top tip from England's Des Shipp. Save money on stands, use a large bucket and some clips on your roost. Add water to the bucket and it will never tip over, even in the strongest winds!

What about this Jaco Goodwin? South Africa's one and only World Championship section winner! He now has something to keep with him for the rest of his angling life? Here he shows off a great days practice catch, an asp of nearly 2kg. He followed it up the next day in contest with that extra special section win. It's very important that results like this, and Russia's previous European triumph, are not underestimated, for without them there is no hope for the lesser nations and their anglers (no disrespect meant). Results like these give hope to everyone, whatever their level,...

Hollands Jo Adriolo with a 'chunky' carp from the top end of D section. Jo would end the tournament with a disappointing 38pts.

San Marino's experienced Massimo Biordi with another of the venues tiny 'stockies'. Not a very good tournament for Massimo with a 13th on day one and a 24th in section day two.

Milorad Radulovic from Montenegro, with a nice carassio during practice. It was not a good Championship for Milorad, although it was consistent, he scored 19pts day one and 19.5pts day two. Montenegro did well here eventually finishing in 17th place.

Stefano Defendi found Fridays practice quite different to day one where he finished in a disappointing 11th section placing. He improved dramatically (as all the Italian team did) on day two and was one of his teams two section winners. We are still not quite sure why Italy finished so poorly on day one, it can only be that inside line which they didn't seem to exploit like England did. Whatever the reason, it definitely cost them the Championship.

Finland's Tero Isokorpi with a good skimmer from high in A section on Friday. Tero was pictured with an 8kg+ carp he caught the previous day from around C section. Unfortunately the picture was on his team manager's (right of Tero) mobile phone, so we can't show you. Trust me, it was a cracking fish!

Looking more Italian in his cool 'shades', Channel Islander Shaun Rankin holds one of the tiny 'stockies' during his teams practice session in C section. Shaun, while not having the best results during this Championships, can be guaranteed to always produce his best back in Jersey as he's a top class chef (1 Michelin star). Wonder how he'd cook that little beauty?

Belgium's Hans Slegers had a great day on Friday, unlike many of his team mates. he found some big fish opposite the smelting works. He carried his good fortune into the competition by becoming his teams best scorer with 15pts (a section win and 14th place). Belgium kept a consistent 7th place over the two days, unable to make any further headway in the championships, but they did however finish in front of all their neighbours, France, Holland and Germany. They will be looking forward to Holland next year no doubt!

One of the Macedonian competitors during Friday's practice session down in A section. Macedonia finished last on day one but showed minimal improvement to move up several places to 33rd on day two. They will undoubtedly make improvement over the coming years, as many of the eastern european teams have already done.

England's Des Shipp gets some media attention while practising on Friday. Box 23 was effectively middle of C section during the Champs. JVS sent one of his Dutch spies to keep an eye on Des!

Italy's Gianluigi Sorti. He was to have a fantastic duel the following day with soon to be World Champion, Will Raison. Unfortunately Gianluigi found himself pushed down the sections on both days by others anglers, away from his respective English counterparts, which is not what Italy needed. He still managed a total of 8pts at the end of the Championships to become his country's highest scorer.
